The Southern Carmine bee-eater and African Skimmer are migratory birds returning to the delta in the summer months when the waters are receding. It is this time of the year that they start to breed. The Bee-eaters nest on the dry floodplains or in the banks of the river that have become exposed by the lower water levels. The Skimmers prefer to nest along the shore of the river or on exposed sand banks. These two species are both beautiful and enjoyable to watch.
